Moon - Last Quarter Pastel Impression Aug1, 2010

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ilForDPRev.jpg
From direct observation through my 10.1" Newtonian telescope, I rendered as yet my largest pastel impression so far of the moon on August 1st from 5UT to August 2nd at 7:30UT. The artwork is of various hard pastel chalks on black Strathmore Artagain paper in 19" X 25" format. The moons disc was drawn at 23" in diameter. The prime focus of the artwork and the inspiration to render it was to concentrate on the Mare Imbrium region flanked by the Montes Apennius and the Montes Alpes light extended into the darkening terminator with the dramatic shadow occurring at Mons Piton.

The photograph of the artwork was done with a Sony Cybershot digital camera in evening sunlight August 14th 2010.
