More to come... I better go and do some stuff while the weather's good  . I gave my old 2x barlow a run as well. Not quite as much mag as the 2.5x powermate (which I thick is simply well beyond the resolution achievable with the SM40).

I just had a look at the sun with my PST at about 40x. This was one of the best views I have had of the sun. Several spots and three "huge" flares. The flares are equal or better than those shown in the photo posted by Peter Ward - thanks Peter.
