Regarding focus problems on newtonians with a DSLR (aka not enough in-travel): DO NOT CUT THE OTA UNTIL YOU HAVE TRIED ALL OTHER AVENUES!
If you have a Skywatcher Newt and can't reach focus with you DSLR - fiddle with the adapters that Skywatcher provide, some of them come apart and your DSLR T-ring threads right on!
I was very close to cutting mine before Brendan gave me the above advice.
