The local papers here are saying that it had something to do with the military.

An hour's drive from the Xiaoshan Airport, the air force conducts regular take-off and landing drills, as well as training recon runs across the area, from a domestic airport (like RAAF does at Williamtown)

Maybe one of these fighter jets had gear issues, and they had to close the airport to let it down safely?

As of this morning, there was no locally publicised official explanation.
