Milky Way the Nikon Way

Hi Everyone,

This is the first trial of our Nikon D90 DSLR with a wide field shot of the centre of our galaxy.

Details of the shot are:

focal length = 18 mm (equivalent to 27 mm in the old 35 mm film format)
ISO = 1600
aperture = f 3.5
exposures = 30 x 30 secs

The focusing procedure was a bit hit and miss. I will have to try and make a Bahtinov mask.

Processing involved stacking in Iris, stretching in Registax and resizing in Irfanview from 4090 -> 1280

The large orange splotch in the lower left is the one and only tree that blocks my southern sky, bathed in the glow of a nearby streetlight.

I need to get a remote cord so I can go longer than 30 secs with the exposure.

Comments welcome (the good, the bad and the ugly).
