Fair enough Paul. Ive played Bass too, badly unforch. You have a 6 string, so you know the effect low B has, metal uses that to great effect.

I dont like sampling either, but I agree, Hill top Hoods seem to have got it right.

Im actually not a metal fanboy per say BTW, death/industrial metal leaves me cold, your right, its obvious when its good, a good tune by Tool, Chillys or Incubus creams your average metal for sure, for "quality" and tightness.

Interestingly, have you noticed at the local music store, that the "how to" book rack has 2 books on generic "bass technics" and 10 on "metal Bass"?, theres a lot more to it than meets the ear, if it wasnt buried in bad guitar riffs.
