The end result will emphasize the shape and size of the shadow as well, and eliminate the contradiction of the shadow curving away from each other on either side of mid-eclipse.

I was trying to show it as I saw it, but I agree looking bottom right to top left isn't natural for an image. Maybe if I had some background it would look better.
