If you don't replace the filter with a Baader or equivalent UV/IR blocking filter, you will be picking up all spectrums of light. This will mean that your stars will tend to bloat due to IR.
And, unless you're into daytime terrestrial infrared imaging, the camera will be pretty much rendered useless as far as using it during daylight hours. With the UV/IR blocking filter in place, the camera can still be used as a terrestrial imaging device.
