In Perth there's two astronomical societies/groups

ASWA -http://aswa.info/ very active

Monthly general meeting
Monthly "Club Night", less formal gathering
Monthly "How" workshops at the society's observatory
Two Deep sky meets monthly
A Lunar viewing night
Public viewing nights and caters for requests from schools/groups etc
Yahoo group
Two astro-camps a year to a rural location

AGWA- http://www.btow.com.au/agwa.shtml

Affiliated with BTOW

The Perth metro area is only serviced by one dedicated shop and that's BTOW, like with anything its best to shop around and there's a number of interstate stores that are good to deal with. There's a number of camera stores dotted through the city that has modest equipment but there is one that has a surprising large selling area http://www.camera-land.com.au/Websit...s/contact.html that includes Celestron Nexstar SCTs etc to skywatcher brand scopes , staff arnt to knowledgeable but there's opportunities to save when they have a floor sale to clear demo gear.

The state funded observatory located just out from Perth offers tours and viewing nights {if your keen you can volunteer to help with these nights to}, well worth the visit .... http://www.wa.gov.au/perthobs/.

The private Golden Grove observatory has public viewing nights which i think can be organised through the AWGA/BTOW group
