Today I followed my own advice and went out about midday in search of the Moon and Venus. I found the Moon but could not see Venus. Took a happy snap anyway and lo and behold there is Venus, if you look closely

Went back out about 5 and Venus was much easier to spot. Didn't show up much better in the photo.
Unfortuanately clouds were rolling in so couldn't get a shot of them when it was dark.
