This is an ongoing process for me too.
I bought a Celestron torch which is OK.
Recently bought a 4 LED light from Woolies, and have painted the area with a red texta - looks great, and will test it out Saturday night for the Townsville Groups viewing!!
Bought an Energiser head lamp on eBay that died straight away!!
