I've heard of some people doing grazing occultations that have had some hairy moments but _nothing_ like that.
Meanwhile, a few years ago a few of us were at our dark sky site, which is in a large clearing off a small road, with all the lights out when a car pulled in and stopped perhaps 50m from us. They hadn't seen us and I though it best to keep it that way. We could hear the voices (including a woman saying she didn't like this place) and it became clear that a drug deal was in progress. Nothing major, just the local dealer selling to one of the local kids. I forget why but suddenly they became aware of us.
Voice 1: There's someone there!!
Voice 2: Oh s***!!!!!
The motor started and they left at a great pace, probably to never return. I don't know who was most rattled, them or us, but I did need a nice cup of tea and a bickie before I could return to the eyepiece.
