Even better than that, they've been testing lasers mounted internally in the F35A (where the lift engine normal sits in the VSTOL versions of the plane) for the last 4-5 years. Upto 150Kw, for both aerial and ground targets. With the detection systems onboard the F35, it'll make them deadly. Especially in a dogfight...an enemy plane would go to lock on with missiles and next minute their front end just gets cut off by a laser beam, or the plane cut in half. Just by the F35 pilot looking over his/her shoulder, designating the target and saying "fire" without even touching their own controls.
