well update - i have a new PC conencted with a geniune serial port dedicated for this task. I have loaded starry night pro and the ascom drivers and updates and plugins. i cannot connect to the G11 no matter what, yet the cable is testing ok and it is the one supplied to do the job. this is very very frustraiting
