Tony, I PM'ed you with the details, the early windows drivers just work natively with phd. Basically there is a base windows driver to connect to the camera as with the latest drivers but instead of piling ascom on top there are native drivers for maxim, astroart, etc etc. PHD is supported in the base windows drivers.
Maybe someone else can help you to get the ascom drivers to go, but I've never bothered installing them
