I have mild astigmatism (0.25) but bright stars in the sky with unaided eyes look like crabs/spiders, with the rays of light being very obviously elongated from top to bottom(in the direction of my astigmatism). It doesn't show up looking at a computer screen because the pupil is much less dilated looking at the bright screen.
Your eyes must have a lot of astigmatism to show up on the screen Martin - do you have your glasses prescription?
