-99 is a very tiny and faint eg whcih is not far from 5105. 10-20" diameter, very small weak patch of mist, very LSB.

-05 is 12-13' away SE, somewhat larger slightly higher SB weak-edged patch 1.25' diameter, round, kind of curiously underlined in the ep with two pairs of wide pairs to its S that point approx E-W. Occasionally you seem to get a hint of a weakly brighter patch in the centre. Also in the same field is -11 which curiously does not appear in the Argo Navis database ! This may explain why from NGC/IC project:

NGC 5110 = NGC 5111. The NGC position for N5111 (from the Herschels) is excellent, while that for N5110 from Swift's third list is a little off. But
the identity is clinched by Swift's note that the object is "in line with 2 pB
stars".

The confusion has come from LEDA which incorrectly adopted a much fainter galaxy as N5111. Though this galaxy has stars nearby, they form a line to the north, with the galaxy being well off the line. It is also enough fainter that Swift probably would not have swept it up given the proximity of the brighter object 19 seconds east and six arcmin north.

The identity, by the way, was first suggested by Reinmuth in "Die Nebel
Herschel." - Dr. Harold G. Corwin, Jr.

The object notes I'm recording here relate to NGC 5111 as per Megastar. In an adjacent field to -99 is -11 probably 1' diameter or even 1.25', good SB rising moderately and evenly to centre where there is a mod br core zone and a faint *ar nucleus. 6' SE is 5110.

A really tiny very, very faint spot of gossamer, 10-15" diameter and no visible structure. Hardly to be seen, took quite a bit of picking up.

This small fairly faint, slightly elong eg is found in a group of *s in a "U"-shape about 10' long. In PA ), small oval about 50" x 15" in about PA 0, brightens broadly and slightly to the centre without core, zones or nucleus. SB is okay without bring really high in any way.

This looks better in the ep than the DSS, small and faint but not too bad. 30" diameter basically of consistent low SB with diffuse edges and a weak brightening to centre without zones or core.

NGC 5122 Galaxy *
RA: 13h 24m 14.9s Dec: -10° 39' 16"

This is a pretty small mod LSB slightly elong eg that is only a 1/2 degree SE of Spica. Maybe 2' from a mag 13 * to the SE has a very faint mag 15.5 * on axis just off the NW tip of the halo. Very small oval halo in PA 135, 30" x 10 growing mod and evenly to the centre that is mod brighter than the halo and at first appears *ar. Reasonable overall SB.

NGC 5136 Galaxy *

This is in a pretty blank little hole, very very tiny, perhaps only 15-20" diameter, round and grows slightly to centre where there is an occasionally visible very faint stellaring.

See NGC/IC:

IC 888 = NGC 5136. Swift's position for IC 888, from his 8th list of "new"
nebulae, is within 3 seconds of being exactly 1 minute of time off the NGC
position (from the Herschels). Swift's description fits the object, so I
suspect that he simply made a 1 minute error when reading the position from his setting circles.

Another, though more remote, possibility for the identity of the IC object is
CGCG 072-073. This has the correct right ascension, but the declination is 26 arcmin off and the object is considerably fainter than NGC 5136. Swift could have seen it -- but the 1 time-minute error for the brighter galaxy is more compelling. - Dr. Harold G. Corwin, Jr.

This one is a little brighter than the last few. Sits in a 2' a side Eq Tri of 16th mag *s. Fairly small, probably 20-30" diameter slightly elong in PA 30 halo rising slightly to centre where there is a very small faint stellaring occasionally visible.

This eg is found about 9' SW of an 8th mag * which should be excluded from the field to make a good observation. Small to very small, round about 30" diameter growing broadly and mod to centre but there seems to be no pip in the centre. Reasonable overall SB.

NGC 5167 Galaxy *

This eg looks worse than it does on the DSS. It forms a very small tri with mag 13 & 14 *s which are aligned almost E-W -- the eg is to the N of them. Very small, only 15" diameter, very low SB not well concentrated, no zones and no nucleus. Took a while to pick it up in the field.

All except for -65, these 7 egs are all in a short, wiggly line N-S about 10' long almost parallel to a couple of mag 8*s running in the same direction. They are in the order N-S as listed in this entry. All are in the order of 10-30" across and round. Most are just simple little spots of gossamer . -71 is the brightest and largest and brightens a little to centre. -78 is the faintest of the NGC egs. PGC 47365 is the faintest of all and is barely detectable on an intermittent basis.

-65 is one medium powered field SW and is a very small, 30" diameter spot rising slightly to centre with no core or nucleus.

This is a fairly small, mod faint eg slightly elong in PA 0 and has below it to the S a tiny tri of mag 14 & 15 *s. About 50" x 20" in about PA 0 growing broadly and slightly to centre without zones but occasionally there is a faint *ar nucleus.

This is a small and quite to very faint edge on spiral to the E of an L-shaped asterism W by 7' mags 10-12 *s. In about PA 165 about 1.25' x 10" growing broadly and slightly to the axis nr centre where there is a small mod brighter axial streak maybe offset a little to the S within the halo. There is a mag 15 * just off the NW tip.

-63 & -64 are in a pir while -61 is NW by about 9'. -64 is the biggest and brighest of the group. -63 is elong in PA 60 1' x 10" faint spindle shaped of gossamer growing broadly and slightly t centre with no apparent core or nucleus.

-63 is 2' S of -64. Smaller, round eg 20-30" diameter that has similar SB to -64. Grows slightly to centre.

-61 is a very, very faint spot no more than 15" diameter of consistent, very low SB. Very faint.

This is a very diffuse, small LSB eg, about 50" diameter, round and is pointed at from the NE by a couple of mag 14 *s. Looks very diffuse and ill -defined, grows broadly and slightly to centre without apparent core or nucleus.

This eg is 2' SE of a 12th mag * and is pretty easy to see -- looks worse in the DSS than in the ep. Round, around 50" diameter growing from diffuse edges growing slightly and evenly to centre where there is a faint stellaring that at first glance almost makes it look stellar. Good SB, not hard to see.
