This might sound silly, but have you tried a different USB port?

I've found on several machines in the past that some devices magically stop working on some USB ports. Sometimes it's due to the OS or specific software locking resources on a particular port (usually cleared after a reboot), other times the port itself has physical problems that only fail for particular tasks or devices. One of my USB ports on my PC works with every device except a specific memory stick I have, requiring me to use a different port every time.

(Just something to try)
