Pixinsight
Hi Pixinsighters - As an interested bystander in this discussion I think there are a few points that need to be taken into consideration.
1 Like it or not PixInsight is in direct competition with PhotoShop.
2 Like it or not most Astro Imagers use PhotoShop.
3 If it is to succeed Pixinsight must attract most of it customers away from P/S
Most astro imagers are not expert users of Photoshop nor do they understand the full working of the software ( I place myself firmly in that catagory) but 2 features that are almost always used are the selection tools (colour range select, magic wand, losso ect) and Layers.
The ability to select a part of the image, then process it and finally blend it into the finished image has become part and parcel of the way we compile our pictures - and lets face the fact most of us are in the game of making pretty pictures. As far as I can ascertain Pixinsight is unable to perform these basic functions without resorting to complicated pixelmath
Pixinsight has some great features and possibly a future in astro processing but at the moment it is very much Beta Software, it lacks some the basic processing tools most imagers use. I have bought a copy and will continue to play with it (I'm a software addict) but for the forseeable future I will continue to do most of my processing in PhotoShop.
Cheers
Geof
