Welcome to IceInSpace and thank you for such a heartfelt opening post.
I remember one of the talks that Ron gave at the South Pacific Star Party,
perhaps in 1999, where he discussed the social and professional networking web
of people that astronomy creates, citing as examples widely known individuals
in the recreational astronomy business as well as notable observing enthusiasts
and how this person would know that person, who knows these two people
and so on. In other words, the degrees of separation between people involved in
recreational astronomy were very small, often only one, two or three people apart.
So it is great to hear from another person who was part of Ron's extended web!
Once again, welcome and we hope one day you can also come down here to
Australia and observe with us.
