The mosaic is great.
The smaller image has more outer detail but lacks contrast in the inner part of the image. Perhaps you can achieve a better compromise on those 2 aspects. Shadows/highlights will give better contrast in the homonoculous (spelling?) without losing detail and brightness in the outer bands.
