At the parties I have been to, the best strategy is wander around and ask questions. Get people to show you their gear, explain what they are doing, most are happy to share knowledge and proud of the gear and want to show others. It is a good idea to leave enough time to have agood wander around in daylight, as once it get dark it helps to have a bit of an idea of where everything is on the field.
