First light with PST!

I took the plunge and bought a Coronado PST last week, and today I had my first chance to set it up.

It was cloudy on and off, so I only really got 10 minutes viewing, but it was enough to:
1) Confirm the dovetail bar connection worked and it sat firmly on the mount
2) Confirm that I loved the view and look forward to doing some more solar viewing!

I saw 2 or 3 filaments, as well as an active region and a few proms around the edge. A very nice view indeed.

I didn't get a chance to plug a webcam into it yet, I'll try for that later this week or next weekend.

I found that my new MacBook Pro has a Firewire 800 port, so I need to buy a 9-pin to 6-pin firewire cable to connect the laptop to the DMK41AF02.

Does anyone know if power gets transferred through the 9-pin firewire port?

Powering the DMK41 had always been an issue with the old laptop, because it didn't have a firewire port and I had to use a PCMCIA card.

Anyway i'm glad to get the PST now - I'll be looking to get some practise in before the Venus Transit and Total Solar Eclipse in 2012!
