I have to agree.
I enjoy a good solid argument face to face, and always try to enjoy them with mutual respect. It is healthy, and it can be fun when it is done with respect, and but awful if someone forgets that.
Unfortunately, online communications are so limiting! Different people can interpret the same written words in different ways, because the inflection or vocal tone or body language or facial expression (or even hand gestures


) of the writer is not transmitted with the words. So often times online, the true meanings get confused and war breaks out. I have seen the same things on a couple of forums I used to run before I joined IIS.
I try to avoid a lot of the threads that are likely to turn sour here, but sometimes it gets the better of me and I do comment. It's a shame online debates are not more successful, but my experience is like Mike's, mostly they end up bitter and twisted, and I think it's because the written word is not a good way to debate.
