The great thing about science is that, most of the time at least, it crosses political boundaries. Scientists from the west applaud the discoveries of scientist from the east and vice versa. Information is freely shared, once that first paper has been published so as to gain credit for a new discovery, in the knowledge that the sharing of new information will further advance the science.
Quite often this has been happening between scientists while the respective governments were all but warring.
Of course there is certain science that does not get shared, like the science of how to annihilate the opposition.
But generally speaking, science is a bit more altruistic than that.
