You're the one with Maxim, not me.
For CdC I downloaded everything in the GSC directory (it's only about 300MB) and just told it where to find it.
You might find the best way to download it is with wget.

Then it is simply:
wget --passive -m -np -nH --cut-dirs=4
http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/f...cats/1/254/GSC
and go make your beverage of choice.
CdC doesn't use USNO-B. USNA-A2.0 looks like it is about 600MB. I'm just running:
wget --passive -m -np -nH --cut-dirs=3
ftp://ftp.nofs.navy.mil/pub/outgoing/usnoa/
inside the c:\astro\USNA-A2.0 directory. They don't seem to have as much bandwidth.
