Flashing light indicates low power mate... Check your connections, and check how much you have running of the same power supply... The HEQ5 draws a peak of 6A at the initiation of a slew, around 4A for the duration of the slew and only 700mA during tracking...
What software are you using to control the ST7? and what guide cables are you using? Do you have a guider relay box or just going straight from the camera into the mount? With my ST9E I used a relay box... It seemed clunky, but it worked..
