With the lens defect terry i had never actually noticed this but its interesting to know, i wonder if placing the south celestial more to the center of the image this might improve

I would think it would. The common defects are either called "pincussion or barrel" defects. I'm not sure what one this is but the effect is exaggerated inthe corners of the image.
