Yes the theory is that if fresh water continues to be dumped into the North Sea at or beyond the rate that it is now the conveyor, which carries heavy salt water, will cease to flow past the England and this will bring reduced temps to England and Northern Europe. It will also have flow on effects for the tropics. It did not seem to affect us too much though.
They had some interesting data that seemed to confirm the forth coming change. Saline conditions in the current have been rapidly changing since the early 1970's. Also rivers in northern Europe are now discharging 50% more fresh water into the North Sea and the Greenland Ice sheet is reducing rapidly. Very intriguing although I would more likely say that the current will not collapse but merely plunge further to south. I don't think this was considered.
