I'm not sure how Dave has done it but there are probably several ways to do it. The method I use is the play with the individual RGB levels in Photoshop... rather than adjust the input levels (which is the usual way levels adjustments are used), I adjust the output levels.
I leave red full strength, back the green off a bit and the blue off a lot and play with it till I get the appropriate "orange" colour.
I guess you could also convert it from monochrome to duotone and apply the appropriate pantone colour scheme (
hmmm then again that won't give the right sort of result... or will it?
I'll have to experiment just for the sake of it...
