I remember the original was super-cheezy and suffered from way too many 80's actors and their bouffants to let it work. Maybe it was the lack of readily-available talent at the time, but I reckon it was all just awful. LOL!! I remember scenes of one of the main alien baddies, Diana (Jane Badler), slipping a rat down her throat and turning to the camera to give it a stern and serious look that neither she or her hair-do could carry. LOL! Gotta love the super-nasty wardrobe too...
I suspect that the new version has a lot more money and talent pumped into it, judging by the commercials.
Bring it on - it's all sci-fi and better than more footy on the box!
