Keep looking around on the internet for telescopes and do a lot of reading on the ones which tickle your fancy and then go to dad with all the info and impress him with the in's and out's of the telescope in question. Don't rush into the first thing, take your time and enjoy your viewing with the binocs as you can have a ball looking into the sky with binocs.
