I've been thinking about all these comments on "waiting for DVD" and "you must see it in 3D".

It was a beautiful movie visually, and I'd totally recommend seeing it on the big screen to fully appreciate it.

But as far as the 3D goes, while it does add another dimension to the visual, I think it would still be a visual treat even if not 3D. It wasn't like some movies created specifically for 3D, things are constantly popping towards and away from you to give that 3D effect, but the storyline is pretty crap etc because they've focused on the 3D and not the plot/story/movie quality.

I reckon Avatar carries itself as a great movie even without the 3D. That just adds a little more to it.
