Hi All

Getting rid of E-Waste as well as batteries, chemicals, old paint tins etc should not be a problem if your local council offers the same collections service that Wollongong council does and if they don't, rally your collective ratepayer voice until they do.
In a nutshell, once a year Wollongong council will announce via notices in the local papers etc. that they will be having an collection day in the various council areas for the different types of waste. All you have to do then is put all the stuff that has died in the last year into the car or trailer and take it to the collection point. What happpens to the stuff after that, how it is reprocessed, re-used, recycled etc I'm not sure, but it's better than just going into landfill or worse, just being dumped on the side of the road or nearest bush clearing, that some morons take pride in doing.
Call your local council and find out what services they provide and if not why not.

Kind Regards

Jeff
