One thing that concerns me with your pier though Dave. What happens when the ground finally dries out? How much shrinkage will occur? Will it make the pier unstable??

i intend on using well over 1cubic metre in the base of the pier 32MPA concrete thinning to the pier mount point, so i am hoping that a 1x1m base will be sufficient, the pier is adjustable at the head - you saw the prototype at astrofest last year JJJ
. as for the cloud it was streaming through some shots - you can see the effect in the image
