I don't think the curtain's brightness is the issue; is there any way for you to bring up detail/brightness in the darkness of the horse's head? If I can do it with a measly DSLR with 4 hours of exposure, then, surely you can do it with the extensive data you've captured, not to mention the super sensitivity of your CCD.
Other than that, looks tops.
