I agree Gary, but you need to be careful on what you send & how it is packaged.
I sent a STEEL water dispenser from Brisbane to Melbourne. Packaged in a carton with internal styrofoam packaging & inside a 2nd carton.
Total weight was approx 18kg.
Insured for $500
It arrived totally destroyed.
The carton was severly damaged & torn apart.
I happened to be in Melbourne so I collected it & brought it home with me as luggage on the plane.
I took it back to the post office & the insurance claim was refused. They say because it was insufficiently packaged in a SECONDHAND carton.
THe bloody carton LOOKED secondhand because of the damage it sustained.
I went to the Postal Ombudsman & after about 6mths of "investigation" they upheld the Aus Post decision.
The ombudsman relied 100% on the testimony of the postal worker that inspected the damaged package. They did not look at it themselves.
So I end up with a $500 pile of junk & had to supply a new one to the customer.
