Very hard to say as nobody can really know or feel what you and your wife are going through. If it doesn't involve any life threatening procedure and it makes your wife's life any better than what it is now then go for it. At the end of the day you want to make her daily life as good and as comfortable as you possibly can and if there is even the tiniest remote possibility to do it then IMHO it's worth a shot.
