Actually Steve - I develop software that manages the advertising input and preflight/prepress workflow for large publishers, newspapers and magazines. This is the very first time I've ever started and completed a whole book though! I used knowledge I have in terms of image prep and separation to CMYK, because every single image I received from contributors was set up for general web display in RGB colour space.

Apart from that, the rest was a first time for me. The printers, Blue Star Print Group in Sydney, were fantastic to deal with. I simply clicked with the requirements as described by their prepress manager Eddie, and that made it a breeze. Thanks guys!

Holding it for the first time is a terrific feeling, I can tell you, and yes I'm proud of it for sure! For only 80 pages it's quite thick, and the stock is very nice. It's well bound, but it's not one of those books you'd want to force flat along the spine - I think you'd inadvertently break it. Treat it well like any other book and it'll be fine.

The next one might have white (or light) covers though - the gloss black has fingerprints on it in no time! LOL! It's like a WO scope in that regard - so keep a polish cloth nearby.

Enjoy it everyone, I think it's great. The image quality is very good across the board - even the lower-resolution examples that most people sent in came out very well. It'll be a great benchmark for next time around - and plenty of people will see their image in print for the first time. This will let them consider what is required for the next one, which was the whole point of the exercise. I think that most came out better than we're used to seeing in our usual magazines.

Mike has a few more left, so if you haven't ordered one then there's still a chance. We're only doing this one print run...until next year's.

One more... last one I promise!
