I really glad I did get into it early, about 14. Although the equipment was more expensive and less good there was far less light pollution and I had EYES. (No computers to ruin young eyes then.) I could see the shape of the Orion Neb naked eye, Omega Cent was a cotton ball and I could see more Pleiadies than anyone I knew. Alas my eyes have 'matured' to merely average and all-night observing sessions knock the stuffing out of me.

I've had time to go from interested to fanatical to too busy to interested again to jaded to getting back into it and joining IIS.
