Sounds like the 8SE is a winner for you Chris, nice write up I can feel the excitement. Now all you need to do is get that baby out under some dark skies and see the difference.
As far as the spanner goes, could it be for tightening the tripod legs? (Just a stab in the dark and I'm sure someone with some knowledge on these scopes/mounts will come along and answer your question).
Enjoy your scope, that is what this hobby is about.
