Eric. I feel the pain, as I can only view about 50% of the sky with trees and houses at my place and half of what I can see is badly affected by LP. I used an 8" and now have a 12". I find it not significntly more diff.cult to move the 12 than with the 8. I built atroll;ey so I just pop the OTA on that if i need to move it around in the yard. I try to plan my sessions so I don't have to move it if I can.
On the other hand, the 8" is a great size, will keep you happy for months or years of observing and is easy to handle. Suggest you get to a gathering and compare, people are always pleased to have others look through their scopes and if you ask nicely may even let you pick them up to get an idea of the weight etc.
