I am also of the camp that struggles to accept processing bright blown out areas so that they aren't, I think it is a throw back to my film days where that was totally expected and accepted. David Malin was really the first to change this perception with his early unsharp mask work but amateurs just dismissed it as out of their league. Now days with all the great digital gear and software it is a no brainer
