Thank you Ron and all those who attended (Peter and Erwin, actually). It was a very enjoyable night. It was the first time that I had used my 22x100's under a dark sky and they were impressive. Standouts were M8 and M20 in the same field, Antaries, M4 and ngc6144 in the same field, and B163, which is a very dark patch against the splendid richness of the milky way in Scorpius. M31 was neatly captured, however the dark lanes were not in evidence. I have tried 125mm telescopes before, but these binoculars are the best RFT I have used. They are ideal for exploring the central region of our galaxy.
Needles to say, the views through Peter's 30inch were impressive also. I have never seen the extensive detail displayed in the dark lanes in ngc253 like that before. Living there must be like our view of the extensive gas clouds in the plane of the Milky Way.
The Moon rose just after the witching hour, so hopefully there will be all this and more next weekend.
