The optics are indeed the same.. They are still the FPL-53 80mm F/7.5 doublet that has earned its spot as one of the most widely used astro-photography tools...

As Darrell just said.. get the gold ED80 Pro for less than half the cost of the Black Diamond ED80, spend $250 on a william optics 10:1 crayford and what you end up with is a scope for $750 that has the same optics and a better focuser than one advertised for $1200 odd... Seems like childs play to me..
