Thanks for the excellent information guys.
The only question I have now is whether the visual problems with achromats (eg. blue halo) can be fixed with filters.
I was thinking along the lines of getting a big achromat and utilising it for better visual observation of DSO's.
I know you might say that I would be better off with a Dob or a SMT, but I am just trying to understand the concepts.
So can the weaknesses in an achromat be fixed externally (via filters)?
