Dragonflies have excellent eyesight - both on the main eyes, and their oceli (primitive eyes). The best way to approach them from my experience is to crawl on your belly, and slowly at that. Do not let your shadow fall on them. No noises. No sudden movements. Preferably upwind of them too. Some more information can be gleamed from my website:
