Pronunciation is always difficult, the correct way to say Paris when you are in an english speaking country is Par-iss, but if you were in France...you should generally pronounce it Par-ee. It seems some words carry their native pronunciation with them into a foreign language, and some don't. So long as the pronunciation is fairly generally acceptable.
I always remember a documentary on TV once where they were talking to a fairly highly qualified scientist about some subject and he pronounced kilogram as "ky-low-gram"...his whole authority evaporated before my eyes!
