Jupiter Bird Strike RGB's Aug 10th 2009

Hi All,

Well, what an afternoon, a thick red dust storm, strong winds and then some sprinkles of mud. Gave any chance of imaging the impact region away, however a check on the weather by my son Christopher before he went to bed revealed a clear sky so I made a mad dash for my observatory with my laptop and satellite drive under my arm.

I ran my Peltier cooling system while organizing my imaging equipment and collimating my scope. By the time I was up and running with the Peltier off and Jupiter on my capture screen the impact region had crossed the CM.

Here are the only two RGB's for the night. The seeing was only fair at about 4 to 5 / 10 but considering the severe weather from earlier in the afternoon I am probably lucky to get any data at all.

The three knots of material, stretched out within the evolving impact region are still relatively well defined.

Thanks for looking.
Regards
Trevor
