Yep pretty much the same, the 20D does pip the 350D a little with image quality but it's nothing dramatic.
The build quality is better on the 20D and if I had to choose it would be the 20D.
Mike (Icy-pole) upgraded to a 20D and loves it !
Saying that, I've always liked the 350D over the 400D and if price comes into it then go for the 350D.
You can get either one fairly cheap 2nd hand now.
If you're after a really good DSLR then hunt around for a 40D, I believe it's the best prosumer crop body Canon has made to date.
